DHL is forging ahead with its Mission 2050: Zero Emissions in Nepal with the purchase of its first pure electric cargo van, BYD T3. A pioneer in green logistics, DHL is piloting the BYD T3 in the Nepalese market with plans to expand the use of e-mobility and green delivery solutions in their operations.
The BYD T3 electric cargo van is equipped with a 50.3 kWh battery capable of running all day on a single charge. BYD T3 has a driving range of 310km on a single charge along with 3800 litres of cargo space in the rear capable of carrying loads up to 800kg. DHL has also been using four BYD 8TT battery-electric trucks in the United States since 2020. Likewise, BYD T3 has a track record with DHL in China since 2016.‘’DHL Express Nepal is aligned to the Corporate Responsibility Strategy of Deutsche Post DHL Group which focuses on generating value for business and society with its GoGreen Program. Our Mission 2050 aims at reducing our logistics-related emissions to zero by 2050, precisely why our ESG pillars are becoming increasingly important for our business. The addition of the E-Vehicle to our fleet marks a milestone in our roadmap towards fulfilling our pledge towards the Environment and the Earth, to bring down the emissions to Zero by 2050,” said, Mr. Abinash Prabhakar, Head of Finance, DHL Express Nepal Pvt. Ltd.
“Firstly we would like to congratulate DHL for their initiation in adopting Electric Mobility. In line with their Mission 2050: Zero-Emission, partnering with DHL is a great opportunity to showcase BYD’s performance and reliability with an industry leader. Our dedication to innovation pairs nicely with DHL’s sustainability commitment.,” said Yamuna Shrestha, Managing Director at Cimex Inc. Pvt. Ltd., BYD’s authorized distributor in Nepal. “We look forward to helping the DHL team achieve their sustainability goals by leveraging BYD’s industry-leading zero-emissions technology.”
During the handover, Mr. Sameer Shrestha, the Project & Marketing Manager at Cimex Inc. Pvt. Ltd. said, “DHL and BYD jointly aim to bring zero-emission, pollution-free electric technology to various sectors of transportation, and create a powerful example of multinational companies partnering for responsible, sustainable development. The two parties will also jointly promote a greener global logistics and transport system, accelerating the industry’s green and low-carbon development.”
In March 2017, Deutsche Post DHL Group, became the first logistics company to commit to a zero-emissions target and it set itself an ambitious goal of reducing its logistics-related emissions to net-zero by 2050. Climate protection and sustainability are particularly important for the future direction of Deutsche Post DHL Group’s business, and a core element of its Strategy 2025.
